The prepping
I started working with 3 new canvases. Time elapse from I bought the raw material in store to finished prepared. First stage 10 hours. What I have done: First the wood goes togetter like a puzzel. Then I lay the unprept. canvas on, no streching. No finishing staples. Only 5 on each side. Then for safe sake I wakum the linnen for dust. Then 3 layers of gluing with Pva. glue. I give the drying the minimal of time. I want the canvas to keep the strech it gets from meeting water. (I mix the glue with 2/3 of aqua) Befor the glue dries I finish the first day with one layer of gesso. This because I have noticed that the canvas stays more even stretch, no wobbling corners.
After 24 hourse drying I take the stapels out and loosen the glued canvas from the wood befor streching it back on, like with a finish prepard canvas. Then at last one layer of gesso befor another 12 houre drying.
